Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant. Located in the Austrian wine region of Wachau, Prager is an award-winning family-run winery. The vineyards, which extend over 18 hectares in some of the most sought-after areas, are planted with Riesling and Grüner Veltliner. The winery is managed by Ilse, Franz Prager's daughter, with her husband, Toni Bodenstein, and assisted by their son, Robert. The Grüner Veltliner grapes are carefully selected from the Hinter der Burg vineyard, one of the most prestigious sites in the Wachau. Here, the vines grow on poor, rocky soils, on steep slopes where only manual labor is possible. Cellar operations are carried out with full respect for tradition, using modern technologies to ensure the pure expression of the grape variety and terroir, producing wines of great elegance. In the glass, the wine reveals a pale straw-yellow color with bright greenish highlights. On the nose, it opens with aromas of crisp apple, pear, juicy peach, and pineapple, followed by delicate citrus and flint notes on a typically peppery undertone. On the palate, it is lively, vibrant, dry, and juicy. It has a crisp acidity and a distinctive mineral vein that adds complexity. The finish is long, delicately spicy, and mouthwatering. It is very versatile in food pairings. Like all Gruner Veltliners, it pairs well with vegetables such as asparagus and artichokes, but is also excellent with salads, seafood, and white fish.
