Located in Western Australia's Frankland River region, the Swinney family has owned a large estate of approximately 2,500 hectares since 1922. In the 1990s, they decided to diversify their production by planting vineyards on four main plots, which now total 160 hectares. The primary crops are Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, along with other varietals such as Riesling, Viognier, Vermentino, and, more recently, Grenache, Mourvedre, and Tempranillo. The Riesling grapes come from blocks C and D of the Swinney Powderbark vineyard on gravelly iron soils. After manual harvesting and whole-cluster pressing, the grapes are fermented in neutral containers, and the finished wine rests on the lees before bottling. The result is a lively and expressive wine that reveals a brilliant straw-yellow color with greenish highlights in the glass. Its aromatic profile is broad, with notes of citrus zest, ginger, white flowers, and green tea, on a mineral undertone. On the palate, it is vibrant, taut, and mineral, with a savory touch, crisp acidity, and medium body. It is a well-structured and distinctive wine with a long, refreshing finish. Leave it in the cellar for a few years or enjoy it now with oysters, lobster, and goat cheese crostini.
